CHAMPAGNE LOMBARD

A family company since 1925. Thierry Lombard is the 3rd generation of his family to produce the young, primary, aperitif-style champagnes of his medium-sized Epernay house.

Champagne Lombard is privileged to 5.5 hectares (13.6 acres) of mostly Premier Cru vineyards located to the west of the Montagne de Reims.

They produce a diverse range of Champagnes, reflecting different terroirs, and follow an environmental agenda that will see them become fully organic in 2022.

Lombard’s champagnes are characteristic by Chardonnay; a sharp and mineral style coming from Chardonnay in the Cotes des Blancs, and subtle fruitiness and rich complexity from Pinot Noir in the Montagne de Reims.

James (Jim) Smith (The Champagne Book Author, University Lecturer and Winner of the Vin De Champagne Award) wrote the following:

‘I tasted the Champagne Lombard Premier Cru Extra Brut with my Champagne Award Friend, Bernie Setford, and we were both absolutely delighted with the wine. I had almost forgotten just how good I had found the Champagne when I tasted it at a couple of Tyson Stelzer’s exhibitions. From our notes, this is our summary.

Appearance: Light green gold with a fine bead and long-lasting and consistent mousse. (3/3)

Nose: Complex with hints of apple, peach, and citrus. (5.75/7)

Palate: A fine, lively palate with notes of citrus, biscuit complexity and a creamy integrated mousse leading to a long chalky finish. Fresh and elegant, this is a well-structured Champagne displaying beautiful balance and delicacy. A low dosage allows the Champagne to show its true characteristics. (8.5/10)

Summary: A lovely, easy drinking Champagne – complex and still showing youthful characters and will age well.
